One of the newest technologies today which is already being used in healthcare is chip technology. This is now known to be a cost effective, energy efficient technology. One new manufacturer of this is a company named “Arm.”
Arm also builds the architecture which other companies have been using for chip technology which Arm was charging royalties and indirectly benefiting from this technology (Routers, 2025).

Now Arm is announcing its own chip manufacture. “This chip is expected to be a CPU (central processing unit) for servers in large data centers and is built on a base which can be customized for customers, including Meta, the report said” (Reuters, 2025).
The plan for this chip is also part of a bigger goal of its majority owner, SoftBank, who is now using Arm to expand AI infrastructure as Arm's chip is to become a part of AI chip production. This chip of Arm is expected to come out this Summer. This is all part of the “growth spurt” of AI (Routers, 2025). It will be interesting to see how this increased technology continues to affect Health IT.

Already Arm chips are expected to increase the energy efficiency and affordability of remote medical device technology. Also its flexibility gives medical device companies the ability to customize personal medicine including compact remote monitors and wearables along with embedded sensors and portable diagnostics (The Lazarus Report, 2025).
To conclude, Arm’s decision to create its own chip should help in cutting costs for medical device manufacturers and subsequently consumers and health providers will all save on costs also improving quality of life for patients as they continue improving the monitoring and customized personal solutions at affordable prices. Its convenient remote applications for further chronic illness health monitoring and access for rural areas of these preventative and non-emergency events offer further savings by lessening the need for actual expensive visits.
